World Friendship Diary

Tuesday 30 November 1999

Today we visited the Fire Station at the airport. The Fire Station is run by a company called SerCo on behalf of the Royal Air Force.

The Fireman were very friendly to us and taught us about home safety as well as how to escape from burning buildings and how to get help.

Here we are all dressed up in different types of Fire-fighting helmets and we learnt different helmets are used for different types of fire-fighting.

Paul the Fireman (Driving) took us all for a drive in the Fire engine all the way along the runway. Alex (left), Ricco (middle) and Ryan (right) all sat in the front. Ryan thought it was brilliant!

This was the view from the front of the Fire Engine - it's exactly the same view that the pilots see when the land their airplanes.

After the drive some of us climbed up on top of the fire engine and had a look around.

Then we came to the fun part! Fire-Fighter Paul showed us how to put out a small fire. This is William showing us how to put out a wood fire using a water extinguisher.

Then Craig used a foam extinguisher to put out an oil fire.

Then Richard had a go with a dry powder extinguisher, which did'nt put the fire out!

Here, Andreas manages to put out another oil fire using foam.

Here's most of us with the SerCo Fire-Men. We had a great time and we learnt how to be safe in the home......

Our meeting for next Wednesday has been canceled as there is the school Christmas play and the camp we were going on this weekend has also been canceled because of a Christmas party on Sunday. However, we'll all be meeting in fulll uniform on Sunday for the Church's Christingle carol service.
